WOODHOUSE COLTS U10’s MATCH REPORT Date: Kick-Off: 11-00 Competition: League Southwell United 3 v Woodhouse Colts 0 Into the Dragons Den! The players lined up and shaked hands with each other before the kick-off. The game got under way with the Colts playing with the wind behind them and taking immediate control of the game. Two early corners caused the Dragons defence problems, with Huw unlucky to get onto a header at the back post. Ryan and Owen looked ‘well up for it’ in defence, with great slide tackles strong challenges and clearances under pressure from the lively Dragons striker. The Colt’s dominance created more chances, Macca having a dig from a clearance that caught the wind and went over the bar. John took a corner that again caught the breeze and curled over the bar and followed it up a couple of minutes later with a drive from distance that he kept low and on target. Before half time both teams finished of with a hat-trick of chances, the Dragons worked the ball down the right for all three, putting two over for goal kicks and the best, a low shot fizzing across the goal. The Colts had Owen hit the target with a powerful shot from a clearance, Rabbit ran onto a chip over the defence by John but the keeper blocked his shot and Macca had another good effort on the half volley again on target. Half-time 0-0. The second half opened with a terrific save by Luke France, stopping a low hard shot again coming in from the right side and later tipping over a dangerous chance from a corner. A couple of changes saw Jack and Nat come into the action and continue to work well together. Nat got a couple of trade mark solid tackles in and covered for Jack when he was under pressure, Jack got play moving down the left flank with some rocket throw- ins and was very disappointed, when he couldn’t knock the ball back in the box, when it came back out to him in the corner. Shelt’s came on for Rabbit with Huw moving up front and it was one of Shelt’s lofted corners that Macca ran and launched himself towards, that would have been the goal of the season had you made contact, Macca. 10 minutes into the second half and the Dragons began to breath fire, scoring with a header from a cross from the right wing, followed by a close range shot after a nice pass which opened up the defence. Not surprisingly the Colts began to loose heart at this point, Southwell were converting their chances and the Colts were not and we began to puff and blow. Even though Macca had another chance hitting a dipping free kick that would have sneaked under the cross bar if the Dragons keeper had not been on his guard, it wasn’t our day and the Colts were finally slayed by the third goal just before the final whistle. I would like to wish Connor a speedy recovery from all is team mates. Manager’s comments: (At half-time) Very good lads, very good, keep it up you will need to work harder and be solid in the second half. Man of the match: not issued. Achievement Award: not issued. Regards Nigel Higginbotham (John’s Dad) |

WOODHOUSE COLTS U10’s MATCH REPORT Date: Kick-Off: 10-00 Competition: Friendly Drezden Colts 0 v Woodhouse Colts 5 Icicles to football skills! A great team performance with each player contributing to an emphatic 5-0 win. Here is the Role of Honour: 1. Luke France Great distribution of the ball, well up the field, throughout the game. Came out for an excellent save at the feet of Dezden’s advancing striker, in the first half. Nice diving save to the left at chest height in the second half. Then in the final seconds of the game pulled off an important save to keep a well deserved clean sheet. 4. Nathaniel Stafford Brilliant Nat! Bringing the skills you’ve learned in training, into the match. Crucial tackles and challenges all game long. One goal scoring chance being expertly diverted for a corner and another where you got enough nuisance presence to put off the player and allow Luke France to make the interception. 5. Bradley Peace McDonald Hat-trick of goals. The 1st from a corner ‘get in’. The 2nd a cross (Macca’s words) from the left wing, that found the back of the net. The 3rd a penalty (after a controversial handball decision) BANG! No stopping that one either. Lots of headers all game, one in particular from a corner, met just inside the penalty area and just looped over. 6. John Higginbotham Couple of well worked shots early in the game. Got two good runs down the right in the second half, linking well with team mates. Helped out in defence, but not showing the ‘terrier’ qualities he had earlier in the season and can you believe it, tried to claim the ‘who dunn,it goal’. 7. Luke Conor Shelton Well wrapped up against the cold and a constant nuisance for Drezden to handle. Worked hard and got the reward he deserved in the second half, with a run down the left and a low shot, that kissed the post, on its way by, into the far corner of the goal. 8. Luke John Shelton Definitely getting more confident game by game, working hard in the strikers zone. A ‘thorn in the side’ for Drezden’s back pair, closing down goal kicks and having some success breaking up Drezden’s build up play. Linked up with midfield on numerous occasions and had a passive role in the ‘who dunn, it goal’. 9. Huw Lewis Pinpoint corners caused chaos in the Drezden penalty area. Put a lot of effort in down the left wing and yes Huw, dunn, it. I’ve looked at the replay a couple of times with Ian Wright and Gary Lineker and the consensus of opinion is it’s a Huw Lewis GOAL! 10. Connor Williamson Nice work up front running onto any through balls, lighting fast, a real handful for any defence. The big pitch and a strike partner to work with next season and Connor is going to be in his element. 11. Jack Hardy Last but not least. Jack worked well in defence alongside Nat, they are developing an understanding together, that went along way towards the clean sheet today (a possible central defensive partnership for the future). A couple of crucial tackles and clearances during the game, particularly when the ball was pinging about, Jack decisively cleared the danger. Referee Had a good game on the whole, stuck to his decisions, even when under pressure from the opposition. Rob showed his exceptional refereeing pedigree, fetching play back and awarding a free-kick, after Nat was spotted doing the ‘oakey cokey’ with a Drezden player. Manager’s comments: Revenge is sweet, great team performance. Man of the match: Full squad. Each and everyone played as a team and for each other. Achievement Award: Full squad. Put last weeks disappointing defeat behind them, with a magnificent display of football skills in, at times, atrocious conditions. Regards Nigel Higginbotham (John’s Dad) |

15/03/08 U18s MATCH REPORT WH/COLTS 4 - 2 Having several players out, facing the league leaders and our opponents in the shield final we knew it was going to be a tough game. But the lads were brilliant and gave everything again, colts were 2-0 up in 20 minutes and maybe should of been more.Darren Seagrave scored the 2 goals which settled us, but Burton Joyce hit back just before half time. They were the stronger team in the last 15 of the 1st half. In the second half Nathan Walters scored to give us the 2 goal cushion, but within 2 minutes the visitors brought it back with a freak goal to make it 3-2.Colts battled on to keep them out and had several chances to kill the game off. And we did 10 minutes from the end and secured 3 more vital points with a goal from Andy Ball. All the hard work these lads are putting in, is paying off.Keep going lads and rewards will come.!!!!! ( The lads that came into the side today were brilliant ) WELL DONE !!!! |

WOODHOUSE COLTS U10’s MATCH REPORT Date: Kick-Off: 10-00 Competition: League game Drezden Colts 4 v Woodhouse Colts 2 Colts go back to bed! So it was up to a busy Debdale to see ‘how the other half live’ with their impressive luxury facilities, but extremely sticky pitch. In the changing room the manager gave the team talk, play as a team, pass the ball and we can maintain our second position. The game kicked off with Woodhouse having the down hill advantage and an early chance for Rabbit. Huw got a cross in from the left which Rabbit accepted with glee, but unfortunately shot over, under pressure from the Drezden defence. With most of the play going down the left wing, Macca got in on the action with a steaming run past a couple of Drezden players he left standing in his wake. Again Huw and Macca combined with good passing moves leading to two successive corners, of which Macca was unlucky with a powerful header on the second one. On 15 minutes the breakthrough came when a clearance by Drezden fell to Huw on the edge of the penalty area, which he controlled and coolly slotted home, 0-1. A couple of minutes later Woodhouse doubled their tally with a stinging shot from John, after some patient build up turned the Drezden defense inside out, 0-2. In defence Nat and Jack got to grips with Drezden’s lone strike. Jack, man- marking the number 6 and Nat looking to sweep up behind when required. This worked well until the ball ran through and the striker was on to it and placed the ball to the right of an advancing Luke, 1-2. Half-time. Luke France opened the second-half with a point blank save, equal to the one in the first half, when he came out intercepted the striker and then got his gloves round the ball at the second attempt. 5 minutes into the second-half Ian brought on fresh legs with Owen and Ryan taking over defensive duties and striker Connor coming on for the ‘Never say die’ Rabbit. The substitutions continued when Shelt’s came on for John, after John tried to head the ball with his face. Soon after Woodhouse capitulated big style, the heart and desire drained from the white shirts and transferred to the blue shirts and the goals just kept coming at 5 minute intervals. 2-2, 3-2, 4-2. Not the goalies fault nor the defence’s fault but a lack of desire to win the ball and boss the game by the team. The goals kept coming like groceries on a supermarket checkout. Manager’s comments: No bite, we’re too nice, we need to get to the ball first! Man of the match: Bradley McDonald A great all round performance, ‘Strong as an oak’. Achievement Award: Luke France. Forever dependable, brave in the challenge, great goal keeping. Regards Nigel Higginbotham (John’s Dad) |

Woodhouse Colts U9s Blues 3 ( Josh Wood, 3) V Ashfield United 0 The lads were really up for this game after losing to Ashfield earlier in the season. This showed straight from the kick off when Josh won possession and made a good run into their half and along with Lewis and Ben made their defence work hard. Luke and Alex were busy in midfieldand were winning most of the battles for the ball and feeding it up to Lewis and Josh. Josh put us 1 up after about 10 mins. Ashfield upped their game after our goal and created some chances themselves but Jimmy was strong in defence once again . Luke also dropped back to help and they made sure their strikers didnt bother Andrew too much in goal. Aaron and Rob came on for Ben and Jimmy and settled straight in with Aaron playing in midfield alongside Alex they put Lewis and Josh through time after time, Josh made it 2-0 just before half time. The second half satrted the same as the first ended with us having most of the ball. It wasnt long before Josh got his hat trick and put us 3-0 up. Daniel came on to replace Aaron in midfield and made some good runs into their box. Alex made a good run ito their box and was brought down to give us a penalty. A brilliant save from their keeper kept Alex off the score sheet. Lewis was superb in the second half winning everything that came his way, he was unlucky not to score after he had numerous shots saved by a good Ashfield keeper. Jimmy came on to give Luke a rest and was again strong in defence until he badly twisted his ankle and had to be carried off just moments before the final whistle. Man of the Match - Lewis Maskery |

WOODHOUSE COLTS U10’s MATCH REPORT Date: Kick-Off: 10-30 Competition: League game Woodhouse Colts 2 v Colts get out of jail! Windy conditions again, surely investing in a wind turbine would bring some welcome funds in, Ian? The match got underway with Mansfield Athletic eager to avenge the home defeat. They came meaning business and took the Colts by surprise with an early headed goal and followed it up with another attack that saw the ball skim along the cross bar. At the 10 minute mark the Colts began to settle and the first chance was created by Rabbit, getting a good shot on goal from just outside the penalty area. The action soon returned to the other end of the pitch, the ball beating the defence and with Athletics number 7 only having to round the keeper, he was met by Luke rushing out of goal and blocking the shot (top draw goalkeeping Luke France). With the defence now on ‘high alert’ and Jack and Nat clearing everything that came their way, it was time for the attack to turn the screw. A nice ball up field from Nat found Rabbit, who turned his man and put Shelt’s through on goal, from the shot Rabbit followed in and through sheer determination got the ball over the line. 1-1 at half-time. The Manager changed things round for the second half with 4 changes; all the players who came off had played their part, in the difficult conditions. The second half opened with Mansfield Athletic again frustrated by the excellent awareness of Luke France, who again came off his line and intercepted the ball under threat from the opposition’s strikers. The Colts continued to grind through the gears, not quite getting up to top speed, but making chances here and there. The second goal came from a build up of pressure, resulting in Shelt’s poking the ball into the back of the net from close range. The new defensive partnership of Ryan and Owen kept a clean sheet in the second half. Owen must be looking forward to 11 a side next season, as he demonstrated the wing back role to perfection. Making wonderful runs up the left and creating a headed chance for Connor, which just went wide. Macca had numerous chances to put the game out of Athletics reach, but didn’t have his ‘shooting boots’ on today. Manager’s comments: We made hard work of the game, but let’s smile, because it still means 3 points. Man of the match: Nathaniel Stafford Good first half display and created a goal from a defensive clearance. Achievement Award: Jack Hardy Jacks Back! Took a ball full in the face and then went on to put in a performance to be proud of. Great throw in down the line Jack... Regards Nigel Higginbotham (John’s Dad) |

Full Time 2 – 0 I mentioned last week that we needed sometimes to put in some hard work to win a game and today the whole team did just that, yes we did have two of our more influential players missing today but it didn’t faze the rest of the team, every member of the team put in 110% today they ran there socks off covering for each other winning the ball back and then getting into space to receive the ball. Robin Hood had a couple of decent chances but they never really looked like getting anything from the game especially when they took their hardest working player at halftime. You need to keep this commitment up for the next 5 games and the league will be yours just remember you can have good football and hard work its not one or the other. Men of the Match ‘Aidan and Keaton’. |

Woodhouse Blues U9s 3 (Lewis Maskerey,3.) V Welbeck 0 We really needed a win this week after playing so well for the past two weeks and coming away with nothing. Welbeck are a good side so we needed our boys to give 100% today and right from the kick off they got stuck in and got the better of Welbeck. Ben, Josh and Lewis soon had their defence under pressure with some good passing and moving, Luke was very busy in midfield and was doing a good job and Alex and James were solid in defence dealing very well with everything Welbeck threw at them. Aaron replaced an injured Alex after about 15 mins and did a good job helping James who was playing superb in defence. We ended a good performance in the first half when a goal from Lewis put us in front. We went out in the second half full of confidence and played some brilliant football against a good Welbeck side who weren’t going to give in. 10 mins into the second half Lewis hit the back of the net again to make it 2-0. Rob came on to replace Ben on the left and kept up the good work Ben had been doing. Lewis topped off a good performance with another good goal to get his hat trick and finish Welbeck off. Well done boys a great performance today. Man of the Match - James Gregory |

Woodhouse colts Yellow U14’s 3 Derwent Rangers Yellow 0 The game started off with woodhouse kicking in to a strong wind, where we kept the ball down and played some good football. The first goal came from a Derwent defensive error which Ashley followed up and tapped into an open net. Then Derwent started to play football which pushed us into our own half which the woodhouse defence dealt with very well. The second goal came from a good build up and Ross took a shot from the eighteen yard box and lobbed the keeper. After that woodhouse took control of the game and stopped Derwent playing where we created many chances in front of goal. The final goal came from a great strike from Lewis and finished the game off. A great all round performance from all the players, keep up the good work. Well done lads Ray |

WOODHOUSE COLTS U10’s MATCH REPORT Date: Kick-Off: 10-30 Competition: League game Woodhouse Colts 2 v Rainworth Rangers 0 Ryan Rules Ok! A windy morning did not spoil this eagerly anticipated encounter between 3rd and 4th in the league table. The Colts enjoyed a game of quick change, before KO, in order to get players, matching kits and trophies all in the same photograph. On to the pitch and after a quick energetic warm up, we were ready to play. Rainworth arrived just before kickoff and away we went. With Ian the manager away (scouting in For the first 10 minutes the ball pinged about in the Colts half of the pitch, but the defence held firm, with Ryan setting the bench mark, clearing anything and everything the Rangers threw at him. The Colts first attack came directly from a (Luke) goal kick which bounced over the defence and Connor was onto it, in a flash, taking a nice shot while bearing down on the Rangers goal. Huw continued to ask questions of the Rangers defence, giving us good options to get by the Rangers backs down the left wing. Macca then had his first effort from distance, as the balance of play and possession swung back in favour of the hard working Colts. It was during this pressure towards the end of the first half that we got a breakthrough. A corner from Connor smacked into the back of the net by Macca at the front post on the turn, 1-0 at half-time. With Ryan and the defence keeping things quiet at the back it was Macca getting most of the chances in attack with cleverly crafted shots from all angles peppering the opposition’s goal. With everyone’s money on Macca to get a second, John popped up in the box and hooked the ball into the roof of the net off a Macca glancing header 2-0. Luke Connor and Luke John came off the bench with 10 minutes to go and created some great passing moves with Macca, constantly opening up the Rangers defence. One move ending with Macca hitting the cross bar with a cracking shot, the ball bouncing on the goal line and then Macca just putting the rebound over. Bridgit did some good work behind the opposition goal stopping and recovering match balls from the stream. After the final whistle Rob and Gaz congratulated the players on their performance ‘You all wanted it and played for each other, well done’. Manager’s comments: (Via satellite link from Man of the match: Ryan Stringfellow Nothing got past him, 100% committed in the tackle and with his heading. Achievement Award: Huw Lewis Continued his great run of form on the left wing. Regards Nigel Higginbotham (John’s Dad) |
