The shield was kindly donated by Mr Pete Witham, a local business man in the Mansfield Woodhouse area, who is keen follower of local amateur football and the major sponsor of this seasons under 9's team.

The annual event is played in between Christmas and New Year and was a major success in its first year in 2005.It also gives the kids a small break from the Christmas festivities and the parents a much needed break from the little ones.

The age groups that are represented are the Under 6s, Under 7s, under 8s and the under 9s and u10's. It is played weather permitting on the small pitches outdoor at the Manor sports complex. If the weather takes a turn for the worst the indoor barn at the same venue is used.

The first team to win the shield was Dave Richardson’s under 7s, who drew in the final against the under 9s minors in 2005/2006 season. But overall during the competition never losing a game.

The 2006/2007 winners were Ian Shelton’s U9’s in their last season in the competition, wining in the final against a strong under 7’s team coached by Wayne Clarke.

The 2007/2008 season was a fantastic day. All teams once again a credit to their respective age groups. The final was contested between Dave Richardson's under 9's  team and Wayne Clarke/Simon Wards under8's.

On this occasion the under 9's ran out  worthy winners 3---1 against a strong younger side.

The 2008/2009 season was once again a great footballing day. The final was contested by Barry Mann's new side and Dave Richardson's side reaching the final 3 years out of 4. Dave's side winning on this occasion 1---0 but credit must go to both sides for a entertaining and end to end final. Well done!!

The 2009/2010 season was another thrilling day with some great football being played all the teams. The final was contested by the U10's Red which are a new team this year and U10's Blue, both taking part in their last season in this tournament and credit goes to both S Ward and P Jones who manage the teams. The winners after a sudden death penalty shoot-out were the blues, but congratulations go to both teams for a thrilling final.

The Shield is played in a great spirit and everyone who takes part is a credit to their respective age groups. All the parents and spectators enjoy the day immensely.

The Woodhouse Colts committee would like to thank Mr Pete Witham for his generosity.
